A ligação de MacPhisto após Desire é para o autor Salman Rushdie, que estava escondido desde janeiro de 1989, depois do iraniano Ayatollah Khomeini emitir uma sentença de morte para Rushdie devido ao romance Versos Satânicos. Porém Rushdie está realmente no local e ele vem no palco abraçar Bono. É a sua primeira aparição pública em quase cinco anos e recebe atenção da mídia em todo o mundo. Poucos anos depois, o U2 gravou uma canção escrita por Rushdie intitulado The Ground Beneath Her Feet, que aparece em algumas edições do All That You Can't Leave Behind.
Live debut of Babyface. MacPhisto's call after Desire is to the author Salman Rushdie, who had been in hiding since January 1989 after Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwah on Rushdie due to Rushdie's novel The Satanic Verses. It turns out Rushdie is actually in the venue and he comes on stage and hugs Bono. It is his first public appearance in nearly five years and it receives worldwide media attention. A few years later, U2 recorded a song written by Rushdie entitled The Ground Beneath Her Feet and it appears on some editions of All That You Can't Leave Behind.
