O U2 se apresenta no Festival Pinkpop de 1981. É de longe o maior público até o momento, com uma multidão estimada de 48.000 (o local tinha capacidade para 50.000). Junto com outros artistas, o set do U2 é gravado e transmitido pela rádio holandesa no dia 17 de junho. Duas músicas - I Will Follow e The Electric Co. - também são exibidas na TV holandesa. Embora anunciado no pôster do festival, The Pretenders não se apresentou. TC. Matic e UB40, que não foram anunciados, apareceram.

U2 perform at the 1981 Pinkpop Festival. It is by far their largest crowd to date, with an estimated crowd of 48,000 (the venue had a capacity for 50,000). Along with other performers, U2's set is recorded and broadcast on Dutch radio on 17 June. Two songs - I Will Follow and The Electric Co. - are also shown on Dutch TV. Though advertised on the festival's poster The Pretenders did not perform. T.C. Matic and UB40, who were not advertised, did appear. (U2GIGS)

The fourth single from Achtung Baby, "Even Better Than the Real Thing" is released. It reaches number 32 in the US and number 12 in the UK. A remix version reaches number 8 in the UK.
